Prevention
Preventing or reducing demand for public services is essential at a time when resources are reducing so dramatically. The £56m of savings generated by our projects often accrue to the wider public sector and help demonstrate the case for a silo-free place-based approach to future financial planning.
North of Tyne Integrated Learning Difficulties/Disability (LDD) Services Project
This innovative pilot project has been piloted by Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside local authorities. It delivers support to young people with special needs, in particular those who experience Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and reduces the need for them to be placed away from their home environment. Services offered to the young people and their families includes 24/7 support, buddy and befriending programmes and training in promoting positive actions and reducing challenging behaviour.
Within the three pilot authorities alone minimum efficiencies of nearly £700,000 will be achieved. It is hoped that the project will roll out across the region, engage a higher percentage of the target population and generate further regional savings.
