Prevention
Preventing or reducing demand for public services is essential at a time when resources are reducing so dramatically. The £56m of savings generated by our projects often accrue to the wider public sector and help demonstrate the case for a silo-free place-based approach to future financial planning.
North East Flood Defence
Following increased national flooding incidents, a pioneering flood defence project has been put in place by County Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Services. It will be the first self-sufficient module approach to water rescue in the country. New teams will be trained and fully equipped to deal with regional response efforts. Supplies of innovative new 'sandless sandbags' will also be delivered to each local authority area.
The scheme will improve the region's resilience to flooding emergencies and has the potential to achieve £5m of savings if just 500 homes are protected during a major incident. FRSs will be better able to share expertise and learning for the benefit of the entire region.

A demonstration event took place on Friday 17th September 2010 to test out responses to a number of full flood scenarios at four different locations in Northumberland, County Durham and Darlington.
