Welcome to the North East Improvement & Efficiency Partnership website

We are one of nine Regional Improvement & Efficiency Partnerships (RIEPs) in England.
The RIEP is made up of all 12 North East councils and 4 Fire & Rescue authorities. It was launched in April 2008, and builds upon the expertise of the former Improvement Partnership, the North East Centre of Excellence and North East Connects.

Between now and 2011, we will tackle a number of priority areas identified in the Regional Improvement and Efficiency Strategy, developed in partnership with all North East local authorities in 2008. Around £16 million has been made available by central government to achieve this. The RIEP is also managing a number of nationally funded projects including the Climate Change Best Practice Programme (click on the link to find out more) which utilises funding from CLG/DEFRA.

The RIEP is run for local authorities, by local authorities - Programme Boards have been established, comprising the most senior council and FRS officers in the region. Click on the links to the left to find out more about each Programme.

Our tailored 'Business Partnering' arrangements ensure that we will engage with authorities on an ongoing basis - each RIEP Programme Manager is assigned to work with a particular authority to help it navigate the wide range of opportunities on offer, and to access and engage with the relevant and most useful areas of our Programme.

How to use our web pages:

General RIEP information and resources can be found by clicking on the purple tabs above. The links on the left will take you to a specific Programme. Within each Programme page there is further information, links, events and resources specific to that Programme. The 'breadcrumb trail' will show you where you are within the site, and you can return to this page at any time by clicking on the RIEP logo, then on Information.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
