Programmes

The Regional Improvement and Efficiency Strategy is being delivered through a range of different programmes, each containing a number of projects. The Programmes are each lead by a Programme Sponsor, typically a Chief Executive or Senior Officer within a Local Authority or Fire & Rescue Service.

21st Century Services

The Programme aims to ensure that local authority services are designed around the needs of the citizen and delivered in a responsive, timely and efficient manner.View the Programme Delivery Plan

Adult Social Care

The Programme will drive improvement and efficiency within Adult Social Care in the region. View the Programme Delivery Plan

Children's Services

The Programme aims to make demonstrable progress in tackling the challenges of child poverty by delivering high quality support to the growing number of children with social care and health needs. View the Programme Delivery Plan

Collaborative Procurement

The Programme aims to enable 'transformational procurement' to support delivery of the very highest standard of public services. It will support authorities in delivering efficiency, quality, innovation and excellence to service users, contributing to the economic, social and environmental prosperity of the North East. Community Engagement & Empowerment

The Programme aims to give communities a stronger voice and more involvement so we all receive the best deal from North East local authorities. View the Programme Delivery Plan

Construction & Asset Management

By working in collaboration with local authorities, the Programme aspires to develop effective contracting and asset management processes around local government 'Built Environment' activity. View the Programme Delivery Plan

OD & Workforce Planning

The overall purpose of the Programme is to act as a catalyst for the development of transformational cultures, behaviours and attitudes in North East councils and Fire and Rescue Services (FRSs). View the Programme Delivery Plan

Partnerships

The Programme will provide a framework which enables partnerships to thrive and excel in delivering outcomes. Focussing on innovation and knowledge transfer, the North East region aspires to earn a national reputation for partnership excellence and effective delivery by 2011. Recruitment & Retention

In 2009/10 the North East RIEP will manage and deliver a recruitment portal available to other regions and other public sector partners. This will build on existing portals operating in the North East, northeastjobs.org and West Midlands wmjobs.co.uk. Typically these portals expect to realise annual cost savings of £350k per top tier authority. View the Project Initiation Document

Regional Leadership

The Programme will deliver a culture of enhanced collaborative leadership amongst leading elected Members and senior officers. This will be underpinned by mutual accountability for strategy and delivery across a broad agenda, particularly economic development and regeneration, and improvement and efficiency.View the Programme Delivery Plan

Waste & Environment

The Programme will deliver significant cashable efficiencies and ensure that environmental impact from waste management is minimised. It also manages the regional Climate Change Best Practice progamme (click to find out more), part of a national CLG/DEFRA initiative. View the Programme Delivery Plan
