The Carbon Reduction Commitment - pitfalls and emergent best practice.
The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a new mandatory carbon trading scheme that begins in April 2010. It applies to both public and private sector organisations who are significant users of electricity ( more than £500k annually approx), most county and unitary authorities will be subject to the scheme.
The CRC has significant financial and administrative implications for participating organisations, to assist authorities to manage these as effectively as possible the NEIEP has identified and secured access to a management 'tool' developed by the London Energy Project (a consortia of London Councils), with the close co-operation of the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
To introduce this tool we organised an event on 29th September 2009 at the Assembly Rooms in Newcastle. Speakers from the London Energy Project provided an up to date review of the CRC scheme, an introduction to the toolkit and considered appropriate management strategies, including opportunities for collaborative responses.
The event was designed primarily for those finance and energy management staff who have direct responsibility for the CRC within their organisation.
